About the Blog

Called to Be Still is a response to a culture that equates noise with value and happiness with success.

This blog is about something else: the pursuit of peace through presence, faith, and self-discipline. I created it for people who are tired of surface-level advice and emotional hype. People who want clarity, not distraction. Substance, not noise.

My background is in military service. I spent ten years in the U.S. Coast Guard before being medically retired after an injury during a tropical storm. That experience reshaped my perspective—physically, mentally, and spiritually. Since then, life has remained intense in different ways.

I’ve been married for 22 years and have four kids. Our house is always busy. We live with five dogs, five cats, a ferret, and a bird. Stillness doesn’t come naturally in a place like this, but that’s part of the point. Peace isn’t a luxury. It’s a discipline.

This blog isn’t about perfection or easy answers. It’s about learning to slow down, think clearly, and pursue something lasting. If you're looking for honest reflections rooted in real life, you’re in the right place.

A boat named 'Yumana' is being pulled through the rough ocean waters by a small wooden boat, with a cloudy sky and distant mountains visible in the background.
